Day 1: Kigali – Volcano National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by a silverback Africa representative who will introduce your tour driver-guide.

Start with a city tour of Kigali including a visit to the Genocide Memorial site, a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocent’s lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide and how Rwanda has dealt with that past. We continue our tour and see the new developments in Rwanda; the recovery has been incredible, a testament to humankind’s resilience. We enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Kigali. Thereafter, we drive to Musanze (formerly called Ruhengeri) in the northwest part of Rwanda, the main base town for Gorilla tracking. The drive is through beautiful rolling hills passing coffee, tea and banana plantations on a comfortable paved road and is approximately 2.5 hours from Kigali.

Day 2: Optional Activities: Mt.Bisoke Hike/ Golden Monkey trekking or Diana Fossey Hike

The hike starts at 07:00 am from the Volcanoes national park headquarters in Kinigi from where visitors will drive/be driven to the starting point of the trek.  For those who require to hire porters, they are always readily available at the starting point. Hiring porters is also another way of giving back to the communities they live close to the park and in return, they conserve this natural resource.  climbing Mt Bisoke the volcano does not present an exceptionally demanding climb but it is nevertheless still a tough hike. Because of the high elevation of Mt Bisoke, demands extra strength of climbers and the whole trek can take about 5 days or the whole day depending on the speed of the walk and also the frequency of stops.  During the hike, you will come along a series of different habitats to include bamboo forest, Hagenia – Hypericum forest and Senecio – Lobelia before you reach the summit.  The Ascent usually takes around 3-hours. At the top of Bisoke the views are extraordinary. Then you will trek back to the starting point.

Day 3:  Karongi/ Lake Kivu

After breakfast, Drive to the Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu Lunch at the Lodge. In the afternoon drive to the Lake Kivu Rwanda’s western side is bounded by Lake Kivu, one of a string of huge freshwater lakes which lie along Africa’s Great Rift Valley. Dominating the border between Rwanda and the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo); Lake Kivu is Rwanda’s largest lake and the sixth largest lake in Africa

Day 4 :  Lake Kivu / Nyungwe National Park.

After breakfast, Drive to Nyungwe National Park, Nyungwe rainforest is placed in southwestern Rwanda at the border with Burundi, south, and Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Nyungwe rainforest is probably the best-preserved rainforest in the mountains. Lunch at the Lodge

Day 5:  Nyungwe National Park./ Chimpanzee trekking.

Enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge; 0430hrs: Embark on a thrilling hike in search of chimpanzee communities. The Rwandan chimpanzee population is thought to consist of approx. 400-500 individuals, confined to the Nyungwe National Park, including a small community in the Cyamudongo Forest. During your hike you may also spot migratory birdlife including the Ross’ turaco, grey-cheeked hornbill, red-breasted sparrow hawk and regal sunbird. Have lunch at your lodge. Optional activities in the afternoon include a visit to the colobus monkeys or do the canopy walk.

Day 6:  Nyungwe National Park./ Kigali Departure

After breakfast, drive to Kigali Via Butare time permitting visit national museum and royal King’s Palace. Lunch in Butare then proceed to Kigali. Upon arrival in Kigali check into Kigali Marriott Hotel.

Day 7: Transfer to the Airport.
