This is an 8-day cultural and natural tour of Madagascar, focusing on the lands of the Zazamanga and the island of Sainte Marie. You will discover the history, traditions and rituals of the Zazamanga, descendants of African slaves freed in the 19th century, who live near Antananarivo. You will also explore the beauty and diversity of Sainte Marie, a tropical paradise off the east coast of Madagascar, where you can enjoy beaches, waterfalls, natural pools and whale watching. The tour includes accommodation, domestic flights, English-speaking guide, activities and some meals.

Attending a purification session at Ambatomikiho, a natural water source
Meeting the Tangalamena (village chief) and their ancestral chief of the Zazamanga

Day 1 : Arrival to Ivato Airport – Transfer to the Hotel

Welcome to Madagascar. After arriving at the airport, you will be taken to a very comfortable hotel close to the airport. It is your driver himself who will come to pick you up.

Day 2 : Discovery of the lands of the Zazamanga, descendants of African slaves freed in the 19th century.

You will leave the hotel early enough in the morning to attend a purification session at Ambatomikiho, a natural water source (short hike). You will meet the Tangalamena (village chief) and their ancestral chief, direct descendant of Rainikotomanga one of the 2 great Zazamanga patriarchs with Rainitratra.

You will have lunch in the village of Morafeno at the home of the chief of the Zazamanga. (The lunch is included in the package) In the afternoon, you will attend a cult of request of blessing and session of possession (tromba) to thank the ancestors.

Day 3 : Visit of the sacred cave of the protective spirits of the Zazamanga (short walk)

will have a purification session and a sacred cult in the cave. Lunch (included in the package) will take place in the village of Ankafotra where you will have the opportunity to discover the charming inhabitants. You will then go to Ambatobevohoka (a sacred site where people who wish to have a child can make their prayer).

Day 4 : Flight to Sainte Marie

You will land on the splendid island of Sainte Marie and enjoy a breathtaking landscape. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the island of mats, where you will discover sacred places.

In the evening, before going to bed in your charming and restful hotel, you will attend a campfire with some villagers.

Day 5 : Heading to the North

During the morning, you will visit 3 beautiful natural pools. During the afternoon, you will attend a session of invocation of the spirits. It is a ritual practiced by the village elders, a real adventure for culture lovers.

Day 6 : Excursion on the East of Sainte Marie

Most tourists only enjoy the beautiful beaches of Sainte Marie, yet it has much more to offer. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of this island paradise, its people and its famous waterfalls.

You will also have the right to a few seance sessions with a village elder. You will be able to visit the houses where the villagers live, see how they cook, how they live.

Day 7 : Relaxing day in Sainte Marie

The island of Sainte Marie is a paradise island. Although this trip is organized on the theme of culture, it would be a shame not to enjoy a moment of relaxation on this quiet and resourcing place.

Day 8 : Fly Back to Antananarivo

You will fly to the capital Antananarivo to rest at the a beautifull hotel in the center. Depending on your flight time, we will suggest visits of the city.

TERMS OF PAYMENTS

After issuance of invoice, 40% deposit to be received after 14 days so as we can secure the booking.
60% of the balance to be received 30 days before first day of service.

All prices are quoted in U.S. dollars and must be paid in U.S. dollars cash, or wire transfer.
Where credit cards (visa, mastercard) are used, we impose a 3.9% charge as bank suffices charges.
For wire transfer we do not impose any charges but bank charges must be sufficed by you.
All the payments should be FREE FROM BANK CHARGES.

TERMS OF CANCELLATION

Reservations that are cancelled, reduced in length of stay or reduced in numbers are subject to Cancellation fee. Any cancellation of a reservation must be in writing, and shall only be effective upon its receipt and acknowledgment.

The following cancellation fee will be subject to cancelled bookings:

14 days or Less prior to arrival date: 100%
More than 14 days but less than 30 days: 50%
More than 30 Days but less than 45 days: 20%
More than 45 days: 0%

No refund will be given to the following:

Itinerary Amended After Departure.
There will be no refunds from African Adventure Specialists Ltd for any unused portions of the tour.
Lost Travel Time or Substitution of Facilities.
No tour refund is available should you fail to join a tour or join it after departure or leave it prior to its completion.

We strongly recommend that you secure trip and cancellation insurance.
