The Mount Elgon National Park is bisected into two to form The Mount Elgon National Park Uganda and The Mount Elgon National Park in Kenya. Though the Kenyan side of the park was gazzetted way before that one in Uganda, the Ugandan park is bigger.
Mt. Elgon National Park – Kenya occupies an area 192km2. It is situated North East of Lake Victoria and 420km away from Nairobi. Part of the park is the Mount Elgon itself which is the second highest mountain in Kenya. An ancient eroded volcano; its peak has an amazing flat-topped basalt column known as “Koitobos”. The park hosts many wildlife species and birds have also found a home here.
